Helping students navigate recovery, manage academic demands, and regain confidence after a concussion.
A concussion can affect much more than physical well-being. Students may experience difficulties with attention, memory, processing speed, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and stamina which can all interfere with learning and daily school demands.
Our Post-Concussion Support service helps families understand how concussion-related challenges may affect a student's academic performance and functioning at school. We work with parents to identify areas of difficulty, review relevant medical and educational documentation, and develop individualized recommendations to support the student's return to learning.
With a focus on the whole child, we help families identify appropriate academic accommodations, communicate with school personnel, and navigate the process of returning to school and gradually resuming academic responsibilities in accordance with the student's healthcare team's recommendations.
Services may include:
Review of relevant educational records, neuropsychological evaluations, and available medical recommendations
Identification of potential cognitive, academic, and executive functioning challenges affecting school performance
Recommendations for temporary or ongoing academic accommodations, such as reduced workload, extended time, rest breaks, and modified assignments, as appropriate
Guidance regarding communication with teachers, school counselors, and Child Study Teams
Support with return-to-learn planning and the transition back to full academic participation
Parent consultation to help families advocate for appropriate school-based supports
Recommendations for monitoring academic demands and adjusting supports as the student progresses
